How Can You Help Battle HS2?

Stop HS2!

We are keen to encourage you to write and support our stand against HS2. The contents of this update have been provided by the Ruislip Against HS2 campaign:

Dear Supporters,

As Autumn draws in on us,The Government's decision on HS2 is getting closer. We believe that there may be an announcement on December 14th - just one month away. Hillingdon Against HS2 and Ruislip Against HS2 have been working closely with Action Groups along the route putting pressure on MPs. We continue to represent the views of residents at meetings, raising awareness in the media and writing letters to everyone who has any influence.

We recently met with The Leader of Hillingdon Council who has assured us that Hillingdon, along with the 51M Group are continuing to fight the HS2 proposals at the highest level. In the next weeks we will be meeting Brian Paddick (Lib Dem mayoral candidate) our MPs; Nick Hurd and John Randall and also taking a Children's petition to Downing Street.

Last week the outcome of the long awaited Transport Select Committee report was published. Whilst the report recognised many of the flaws we have been highlighting for so long, the overall outcome was that Ministers still believe HS2 is a project that should go ahead.

We therefore still have a lot of work to do!

Justine Greening - The new Secretary of State for Transport has invited all MPs to meet with her on November 21st to discuss HS2.There will also be a Lobby Day,organised by anti HS2 groups, for MPs to attend on November 28th.

It is vital that as many MPs attend these dates as possible. We need to persuade John Randall and Nick Hurd that they must be there to represent us.We also need to make MPs off route aware of the project's flaws and put pressure on them to go to these meetings too.

The more letters MPs receive, the more obliged they will be to make HS2 their top priority and this will mean they are more likely to attend these dates. We understand that the Pro Lobby have been hard at work too and there are HS2 supporters who are being vociferous within Hillingdon so we need to make our voices louder.

WE NEED YOU TO WRITE AS MANY LETTERS AS YOU CAN .

www.highspeedrail.org.uk THIS WEBSITE WILL WRITE AND SEND LETTERS FOR YOU!!

You can of course write your own letters or edit the suggested ones on line but this website is the quickest and easiest way to get a message to your MP.Even if you have written before please write again. You can also use it to write to Justine Greening.

PLEASE SEND THIS LINK TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW, BOTH LOCALLY AND ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

Please add it to your email signature, post it on Facebook or even Tweet it - we need you to spread the message!!

Please don't underestimate the usefulness of doing this and please don't leave it up to others to do, we can only do so much on your behalf. As usual the best way to keep up with the latest news and links to articles is to click on the Ruislip Against HS2 link for access to our Website, Facebook page and the Uxbridge Gazette.

Don't forget the Blogs from Keri Brennan too. http://www.uxbridgegazette.co.uk/west-london-news/west-london-columnists/hs2-blogs/

Once again, many thanks for your continued support and interest.

Best wishes

High Speed Rail HS2

The SRRA are actively opposed to this proposal to develop a new high speed rail link from London to Birmingham. Whilst everyone is concerned about the adverse effect it will have on their communities there are more fundamental concerns:

1) The business case does not reflect reality and is uncommercial

2) The environmental case is not approved, it is not as green as quoted and the noise vibration is not completely dealth with.

3) It takes little or no account of the effect of construction on the affected areas

4) Where as a nation are we going to get the billions needed to fund the project?

As concerned citizens we need to continue to object to this ill thought-out plan that would be a blight on our childrens lives and all this to reduce the journey time from London to Birmingham by between 20 and 30 minutes with improvements that can be nearly achieved by improving the existing network at much lower cost.

There are a number of bodies working to oppose this project, some of them are:

1) www.ruislip-against-hs2.co.uk this is a local initiative being run on behalf of the local community.

2) www.hs2actionalliance.org this is made up of a joint action by a number of communities along the proposed line.

3) www.stophs2.org

4) The taxpayers alliance is also strongly opposed to the project.

We do not have detailed plans of the final proposal with respect to the South Ruislip area but the line will be placed alongside the existing Chiltern line with proposals to either go over or under it in our area. We have requested more detailed information from the Transport Secretary but so far no reply.

South Ruislip Dairy Site Redevelopment

The current site owners proposals for the redevelopment of the dairy site near Station Approach are detailed in this pdf here. If you have an interest in the redevelopment of the old Express Dairies site this document will provide you with the site owners current thoughts for change.

Updated 20/02/2011. The developers have created a website www.southruislipdairy.com. All the documents produced to date are available on the website, as well as a short commentary. There is also a comments page for interested residents to leave messages for the developers .

The committee believes that the site should be developed but as yet have not formed an opinion with respect to this proposal as we do not have sufficient information. Once we have more information we will share it with our residents. As always your input at the quarterly meetings or via email is welcomed.
